1) use a bit of olive oil when you wash your hair. you can also try using an egg.

2) use cold water, not hot water

3) dry your hair on a cold setting, pointing the dryer downwards

4) use a boar bristle brush, without beads on the end. they're sooooooo good for your hair and make it sooooo shiny.

Use a deep conditioner! I use one about every two or three days. One thing I have tried recently is the Brilliant Brunette Luminous Color Glaze and I really like it. It makes my hair a more rich brunette and it makes it super shiny and soft. They have them for all hair colors. If you have highlights, pick the one that is the same color as your highlights. It cost about 9 dollars for a bottle. I wish you luck:-)

just a simple tip: right before you get out of the shower turn the water on as cold as you can handle and rinse you hair once more. This constricts the glands and makes hair look really nice; shiny, silky, and smooth.

I've got a great book for you to read. It's called "Curly Girl: The handbook" by Lorraine Massey. It's got load of homemade recipes for taking care of your curls. Trust me you'll love it. I started it's regimen and can't believe the results after just one week!

I don't normally do this because a stylist is your best answer, but here it goes. Shampoo and condition the hair as normal. Shampoos/Conditioners with moisturizers are best; will relax the curl some. Squeeze the excess water from hair, add a "foam wrap lotion" to the hair ("Motions" has a great one; soft hold, very little alcohol). Then add "Silk Elements" thermal straightening hair protector. Comes in a spray bottle. Blow dry the hair in sections, using the comb attachment. You should automatically notice a difference. Then take an electric flat iron (preferrably a "Chi" iron; it's expensive and only a stylist should use it, but use caution and you should be okay). Flat iron each section, by parting off smaller sections. Your hair should be silky, shiny, soft and smooth. I don't recommend holding spray because it leaves the hair sticky/tacky and may revert your hair back to the curly state. As always, it would be a lot less stress for you and your hair if you had it professionally done. Stylist are patient. And it will take patience more than anything to get your thick, curly hair in a long lasting smooth/straight state that you'll love. You're going to be tired when you're done, trust. But, depending on how bad you want it, go for it!

you could try any of these:

1. use garnier sleek and shine conditioner

2. wash out your old mascara wand and use them to 'define' your curls. just comb through them and you can sort of give them a shape.

3. consider leave-in conditioner.
